I can’t believe we haven’t added anything since 2023!

The memories of our Herbs gig at the 3 Furs, in our hometown of Kaiwaka in 2021, live within us and will do forever. Sadly, we are quickly sobered up, having been to too many Tangi since. We will play those HERBS songs when and where ever we can, and keep them alive for as long as we are, and that’s what we’ve been doing  In the last five years since we bought Herbs to Kaiwaka , Gordon and I have been been hunkered down - me with my day job and Gordon making sure Happy Fish runs smoothly, from week to week where we get to travel all over the place making people happy with our music. Over the last three years we’ve had another project we haven’t spoken a lot of. Gordon and I are the backing band for one of New Zealand’s most incredible songwriters, Mr Fred Renata, who hails from the Kaipara region. We are both captivated by Fred’s songs that are enchanting tales of the people and places where we live. Gordon, adding his magic as always drums, me on BV’s and constantly trying to get some sort of bass line happening to cut the mustard, and Fred on guitar, harmonica, singing his stories. Over the last three years we have regularly rehearsed on Tuesday nights, sharing dinner and probably too much red wine, honing Fred’s great songs the best we can. We’ve performed live together three times now, as the Ocean Project. Off we go to the studio for some recording this Tuesday actually! We’re so fulfilled to run these projects side by side with Happy Fish, that gets us grooving all over the country. We love it, but there is a firm place in our hearts for original music, especially from Aotearoa and are both excited to take the Ocean Project wherever it wants to go. ROCK ON!.
